Mr. Blog, we have some catching up to do....now where to begin....
My last blog, we were still in Tokyo, about to hit up a sushi joint. Probably one of the things I was most excited about in Tokyo was the authentic sushi. Well...we've learned we're definitely not "authentic" sushi lovers! We went to some sushi joint, ordered a sushi platter, and proceeded to choke down probably the grossest combinations of sushi ever. I ate the shrimp roll, the prawn roll, and the salmon rolls after Leif told me to eat whatever I wanted, and then I watched poor Leif choke down a plethora of fish eggs, eel, and sea urchin. We were given a bowl of soup, which at first looked safe. I put a spoonful in my mouth and nearly shot it out across the restaurant. It tasted like rotting ten year old seaweed to put it nicely. Leif, fully agreeing with me in how awful this soup tasted, still used it as a means to wash down the sushi. Not only was the food awful, but we were totally the people that everyone in the restaurant giggled at. The chef yelled at the waitress to get us spoons after he watched our confused faces look at our bowls of seaweed soup, and the locals beside us laughed quite loudly at my inability to use chopsticks, and how I finally resorted to my fingers. I am totally content with a trip to Tokyo express when we arrive home for some delicious California rolls. Who cares if they aren't authentic! Needless to say, our trip to
7-11 after our experience was the best part of our evening. Mmmmmm delicious ice cream snacks lol.
next stop...Bangkok! We stayed at this cute little resort right by khaosan road. Not gonna lie, I was a bit taken aback at first... Our resort was nice, but driving up to it, I was a touch concerned...so many people sleep on the sidewalk, there are a mass amount of stray dogs, and so much poverty. Everyone is still super respectful though. I think about the homeless people back home and how they yell at you for money...not really in Bangkok. Where we stayed anyways, people didn't have much, but they were happy and minded their business.
The tuk tuk drivers are the pushiest!! Our second tuk tuk ride, Leif agreed to one stop for gas, thinking the guy needed to fuel up. Apparently though, The drivers like to take you to markets because if you buy something at the market, they get a gas voucher. he told us we had to walk around the market and look interested, so we tried to look as interested as possible as we walked around, hoping our driver would get his much sought after gas voucher. Then we got back in and he asked us if we bought anything. We said that wasn't the deal, then he was angry that he didn't get his gas voucher so he said one more stop...all the while smoking the
largest doobie I have ever seen and weaving in and out of traffic like a mad man. Lol. We told him to just drop off us as he was a large douchebag and clearly wasn't giving up till we bought something at a damn market.
One of The biggest highlights of Bangkok was the amazing hour long foot massage we got on the street, for the price I pay For a star bucks. My god these thai people have massage down pat!! Luckily, they didn't charge leif extra for having size fourteen feet. ;) this massage business is something I will gladly throw my money towards for the next five months!!!
Today we arrived in kho Chang. We took a six hour long bus trip and listened to a devil child
practice how loud he could raise his voice for the majority of the trip. Luckily, I plugged in my iPod and rocked out to some backstreet boys to tune him out. We took our ferry to the island, and met some fellow edmontonians in the taxi on the island. They were talking about cook county strangely enough. Lol. We got ourselves a ghetto little resort, and a scooter, and we plan to just be beach bums and save some money for the next few days.
Sorry, still no pics. I have no idea how to post pictures from an ipad to a blog. May need to hit up an internet cafe...for now, you'll just have to deal with my long winded blogs with a huge lack of visuals!!!!
Till next time!!!
