Thai Bloggy Update

I've learned so much so far while travelling....to name a few, see below:

  • I have the grestest friends/family ever.
  • Ants are the most awful creatures, next to mosquitoes.
  • I love monkeys.
  • Thai food is amazing and I will be lucky not to pack on a few.
  • The beaches here rock my world.
  • Taylor Swift is the best beach music ever, judge me if you must, but she is.
  • I could live off of shrimp.
  • Singha beer is a delight and I will purchase a plethora in Canada.
  • I love scooters, and can't wait to graduate to a honda goldwing and go on road trips.
  • There always seems to be one person on a bus that doesn't understand the concept of "inside voices."
  • Sometimes food shouldn't be combined, ie: corn, kidney beans and yogourt...gross.
  • 7-11 is a godsend.
  • Blogging is fun, if only my life was interesting enough once I returned to continue on.
  • Canadians are spoiled with absolutely everything but our weather.
  • Thai kids are the cutest in the world.
  • Meeting peole while travelling is the best, cause they're all laid back and awesome!
  • Ice cream is awesome, specifically magnums (thanks Katharine!)
  • I am learning to love spicy food one sweat bead at a time!
  • I'm not sure what I'd do without hair gel in this humidity!
  • I am glad I can tan...poor Leif....baaaahh!
  • I can't wait to travel some more!
Now, for some pics...

On the road again...

For the past few days Leif and I have been wrapping up our stay in koh Chang. Hitting the beach, getting our scooter time in, and most importantly eating delicious food on the beach. For valentines day, lonely beach had a valentine extravaganza party. After going out for dinner and getting comfy in our new room, we kinda got the "maybe we should just stay in" mood going on...but we decided to just go check it out, and we ended up drinking buckets, dancing to house music, and meeting a crap load of friendly Swedish people!!! A great warm up to the full moon party, which we will take part in in April once Thad and Ang arrive!!!

The day after valentines day we moved back to our first location on koh Chang, white sand beach. We went out for dinner that night, and hyappened to see our Edmonton friends that we met when we first arrived in koh Chang on the taxi. We ended up sitting down with them and three swedish people, started drinking some singha and Chang beers, moving to a new location and smoking apple and mint huka for the remainder of the night. Kinda unexpected when our first plan for the evening was to finish our books lol. By the end of the night we had Pretty much the entire wait staff sitting with us smoking huka lol. we had some good visits and the Swedish man talked our ear off about hockey and hockey stats, and proceeded to call me Denver girl all night because of my love of Joe Sakic. He even invited all of us to come to his place in northern Sweden and we would all go to a Swedish elite league game.... If only Dylan was there to exchange hockey stats with him ;)

That was our last night in koh Chang. Back to Bangkok we went on a cramped bus with broken air conditioning and makeshift air conditioning via fans attached to the ceiling. We checked in to our new favorite hotel (a nice break from our hut with ants) and met our Edmonton friends for supper and drinks. They are leaving tomorrow, which sucks...they could have been pretty good travel buds.

Now today we are hanging out in a lounge with free wifi, and hopping on a night bus to krabi. New location, new adventures. Rock climbing, scuba....we shall see how brave I am.

Till next time!!!!

Finally....Some Pix!

A few pics to enjoy :)

Tokyo

Bangkok

Our first tuk tuk ride, and the driver was very adamant that we didn't break wind in his tuk tuk. Leif didn't follow his rules.

Enjoying a long island iced tea...mmmmm

Just off the ferry, finally in Koh Chang!

Gorgeous!

Our hut in Koh Chang.

We were greeted one morning by some monkeys fighting over a coconut, who proceeded to just hang out for a bit. So cute, one even actually came up to our door, and Leif had to kick him out lol.

Other than hanging out on the beach, we've been doing a whole lot of scooter riding around the island! So fun, I'm totally enjoying being a scooter babe...maybe one day graduate to a biker babe ;)

And other than ridin' the scooter and lying on the beach, we been drinkin'

That's all for now!!!! Enjoy :)

Khapoonkap!!!!

Mr. Blog, we have some catching up to do....now where to begin....

My last blog, we were still in Tokyo, about to hit up a sushi joint. Probably one of the things I was most excited about in Tokyo was the authentic sushi. Well...we've learned we're definitely not "authentic" sushi lovers! We went to some sushi joint, ordered a sushi platter, and proceeded to choke down probably the grossest combinations of sushi ever. I ate the shrimp roll, the prawn roll, and the salmon rolls after Leif told me to eat whatever I wanted, and then I watched poor Leif choke down a plethora of fish eggs, eel, and sea urchin. We were given a bowl of soup, which at first looked safe. I put a spoonful in my mouth and nearly shot it out across the restaurant. It tasted like rotting ten year old seaweed to put it nicely. Leif, fully agreeing with me in how awful this soup tasted, still used it as a means to wash down the sushi. Not only was the food awful, but we were totally the people that everyone in the restaurant giggled at. The chef yelled at the waitress to get us spoons after he watched our confused faces look at our bowls of seaweed soup, and the locals beside us laughed quite loudly at my inability to use chopsticks, and how I finally resorted to my fingers. I am totally content with a trip to Tokyo express when we arrive home for some delicious California rolls. Who cares if they aren't authentic! Needless to say, our trip to
7-11 after our experience was the best part of our evening. Mmmmmm delicious ice cream snacks lol.

next stop...Bangkok! We stayed at this cute little resort right by khaosan road. Not gonna lie, I was a bit taken aback at first... Our resort was nice, but driving up to it, I was a touch concerned...so many people sleep on the sidewalk, there are a mass amount of stray dogs, and so much poverty. Everyone is still super respectful though. I think about the homeless people back home and how they yell at you for money...not really in Bangkok. Where we stayed anyways, people didn't have much, but they were happy and minded their business.

The tuk tuk drivers are the pushiest!! Our second tuk tuk ride, Leif agreed to one stop for gas, thinking the guy needed to fuel up. Apparently though, The drivers like to take you to markets because if you buy something at the market, they get a gas voucher. he told us we had to walk around the market and look interested, so we tried to look as interested as possible as we walked around, hoping our driver would get his much sought after gas voucher. Then we got back in and he asked us if we bought anything. We said that wasn't the deal, then he was angry that he didn't get his gas voucher so he said one more stop...all the while smoking the
largest doobie I have ever seen and weaving in and out of traffic like a mad man. Lol. We told him to just drop off us as he was a large douchebag and clearly wasn't giving up till we bought something at a damn market.

One of The biggest highlights of Bangkok was the amazing hour long foot massage we got on the street, for the price I pay For a star bucks. My god these thai people have massage down pat!! Luckily, they didn't charge leif extra for having size fourteen feet. ;) this massage business is something I will gladly throw my money towards for the next five months!!!

Today we arrived in kho Chang. We took a six hour long bus trip and listened to a devil child
practice how loud he could raise his voice for the majority of the trip. Luckily, I plugged in my iPod and rocked out to some backstreet boys to tune him out. We took our ferry to the island, and met some fellow edmontonians in the taxi on the island. They were talking about cook county strangely enough. Lol. We got ourselves a ghetto little resort, and a scooter, and we plan to just be beach bums and save some money for the next few days.

Sorry, still no pics. I have no idea how to post pictures from an ipad to a blog. May need to hit up an internet cafe...for now, you'll just have to deal with my long winded blogs with a huge lack of visuals!!!!

Till next time!!!

Safe and Sound!!!!!

We made it!!! After saying my last goodbye to my cute little Breann, our adventure began. Our quick little flight to Vancouver was first, and we had a short little layover there... but we saw David Suzuki waiting for his bags, which was rather cool!! The flight into Tokyo was about ten hours, so three movies and a few little naps later, we were there!! Yikes to the subway system, really not sure what I'd do without my non-directionally challenged boyfriend. I'm quite sure if I were on my own I'd still be at the airport walking around in circles.

I had visions in my head of what to expect from Tokyo. The vision in my head was a city that had a thick smog, people walking shoulder to shoulder amongst all of the large electronic stores, mixed with a whole lot of hello kitty. I was actually pleasantly surprised!! The city has no smog, very open air, and a ton of character!! The buildings are both new and old, and in what we guessed to be about a twenty kilometer walk today, we only came across one area with a ton of electronics! I did see a lot of hello kitty stuff, which made me chuckle...they just friggen love that stuff!!! Honestly, one of the main modes of transport here is old school bikes with buckets in the front...I totally want one! Everyone rides the old school bikes on the wide sidewalks that accommodate both pedestrians and bikers. Everyone parks their bikes on the sidewalk without any locks at all. Totally safe!!! We need chains to lock our bikes up in Edmonton, or they'd be long gone!!

Ive had a few eye openers thus far, but nothing too major. The first was at the airport in tokyo when i had to pee after the long flight...i ran into the washroom and promptly ran right back out. The stalls had a hole in the ground...ummm, where the deuce is my toilet? Lol. I went back in after much of leif's convincing, and luckily found a toilet in the last stall available. Yes, I walked down the entire row hoping, and my wish was granted. I've yet to hover over this hole, and I am trying to be open minded, but can't quite understand why this is a preferred method for going to the bathroom. My other eye opener happens to be another bathroom story and Leif told me I have to tell it lol. Whilst walking through the mall today, I ran into the girls washroom, luckily they had toilets. As i was sitting on the can, I was examining all the weird buttons on the arm rest, so I thought I'd press one. To not get into too much detail, I'll just say a fountain of water is shot up out of the toilet, to clean...Lol. I stood up and the fountain shot against the wall, so I sat back down until I found the stop button. Wow...I walked out of that bathroom with very, very wide eyes!!! I could barely form words to tell Leif what had just happened through my laughter.

Anyways, sorry no pics yet...we've been taking lots, just none uploaded yet...next blog I promise. Tonight we are hoping to go for some authentic sushi, and then take the subway to the Tokyo tower which overlooks the entire city. If we are up to it, we may even hit up a karaoke joint!!!! I'll blog again soon, promise!!!

Take care my blogger peeps!

Xoxo from Asia!!!

Bangkok tomorrow!!!! Can't wait for the sun and a tan!
